The pipe was found on a construction site on a residential street in North York.
The pipe is a 1/2-metre long, 1.5 metre wide pipe that has been bent by a crane into a pipe hanger.
The crane operator says the pipe was used to tie a cable to the roof of a condo building.
The construction worker says the crane operator did not take any precautions when tying the cable.
The contractor says he was never told of the problem and that he did not realize the crane had been moved and the pipe on the roof was now in use.
“This is an ongoing situation,” said Scott Brace, president of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union.
“If it was a problem we would have been aware of it before we started.”
Brace says the union is investigating the incident and has contacted the crane company.
